Dr. Jenifer Jeba S, is Professor and Head in Palliative Care Unit, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore.
Dr Jenifer Jeba S completed her post-graduation in Radiation Oncology in 2006. She pursued her career in Palliative Medicine. In 2006, she received the Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue MSc Palliative Medicine from Cardiff Univeristy, UK. She completed Dip Pal Med and MSc Pal Med from Cardiff University, UK. She was the joint recipient of the Dame Cicely Saunders medal for the top student in the Diploma in Palliative Medicine from Cardiff University in 2008. She is an Honorary Tutor at School of Medicine, Cardiff University, UK.
Her years of experience in Palliative Medicine specialty encompasses several facets of palliative care including assessing the palliative care needs of advanced cancer patients for pain and symptom management, psychosocial care and end-of-life care; referring patients for palliative care interventions/palliative chemotherapy and radiotherapy; communicating with patients and families on diagnosis, prognosis and goals of care and providing consultation for patients from other medical and surgical departments for palliative care needs. Her international exposure has instilled an appreciation for the role of cultural differences within the practice of palliative care.
Dr. Jeba is involved in teaching and training clinical fellows during the one-year residential program in Palliative Medicine. She is also involved in teaching palliative medicine to undergraduate medical students and post-graduate trainees from different specialties including: Radiation Oncology, Pulmonary Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Gynae Oncology.
