He then joined the Tata Group as Managing Director of Tata Tea Ltd. and later became Managing Director of Tata Chemicals. Both companies became the world’s 2nd largest Companies in Tea & Soda Ash during his tenure by virtue of major international acquisitions which he managed. After retiring in 2008, he was appointed Special Adviser to the Government-appointed Board of Satyam Computer Services Ltd. in 2009.
He has worked with various Industry Organisations and Chambers of Commerce. He was President of the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India and Vice-President of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Till recently he was Chairman of United Way Mumbai and President of the Bombay Natural History Society.
He is presently Senior Adviser, Private Equity to Tata Capital and a Non-Executive Director, on several Boards. He is Chairman of the Western Region of the Employers Federation of India, Vice-Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, serves on the Board of Governors of a leading Secondary School in Mumbai and is on the Executive Committee of the B D Petit Parsee General Hospital.
